3 Best Picnic Spots in Dorchester

My kid loves the idea of going on a picnic, so we pack up what seems like half of our refrigerator a few times a year and head out to one of our favorite picnic spots.

We’re lucky that Dorchester has so many great picnic spots to choose from! Here’s my family’s list of top three picnic spots in Dorchester.

*Location: Schoolmaster Hill Picnic Area, Circuit Drive, Dorchester MA 02121

Features: Picnic tables, Trash receptacles, Historical info, largest green space in DOT

What my kid loves: Rocky area for climbing the "castle"

What I love: Usually pretty clean. Yoga in the Park (summer), Kite & Bike Festivals, Art in the Park visits

*Location: Dorchester Park, 2180 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA 02124

Features: Playgrounds, Bike/Walking Paths, Benches, Baseball field, Tennis Court, 

              Annual Events, Fall Foliage here is a sight!

What my kid loves: Walking our dog, Biking, Scooting

What I love: Lower Mills library is across the street, Pat's Pizza (local pizza joint) is in the area, 

                  TONS of free street parking

*Location: Malibu Beach, Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester MA, 02125

Features: Shallow Beach, Bathhouse, Boardwalk, Benches, Free street parking and parking lot, Covered benches

What my kid loves: BEACH! so close to home 

What I love: FREE parking lot (off Morrissey Blvd), Lifeguards on-duty all summer
