Student Poll Workers

Age 16 & over, Earn $75/DAY

Does your teen have an interest in the voting process? Would they be interested in working at the polls and really becoming a part of Election Day this year? Would you want them to gain an inside look at the democratic process and election laws? Well, the Boston Election Department is looking to engage students ages 16+ in the democratic process of voting. Student Poll Workers will help voters exercise their right to vote on Election Day. The Election Department is partnering with the History & Social Studies Department, Boston Student Advisory Council and Boston Public Schools Intergovernmental Relations to encourage BPS Students to join the Student Poll Worker Program! 

  • Earn a $75 stipend PER DAY for working before & after school hours and attending a 2 hour paid training session. 
  • Get school attendance credit for hours worked during the school day. 
  • Earn community service hours that you can include on your resume or college application.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attend a 2-hour training on Oct 2nd or 9th. 
  • Must be Age16+ by Election Day (November 6, 2018 ).
  • Report to your assigned voting location (polling place) on Election Day at 6:00 am.
  • Pre-register (age 16-17) or Register (age 18+) to vote if eligible (must be a U.S. Citizen).
  • Complete reflection report on overall experience for Boston Public Schools.
  • Obtain parental consent.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Helping to set up the polling place before the opening of the polls by 7am.
  • Serving as a greeter, inspector, or interpreter (must be bilingual).
  • Closing the polls at 8pm, counting the ballots, and preparing them for pickup by the Boston Police Department.
