A Day Fit For a Queen

Check Out My Mommy's Day Out at Flour Bakery & Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience

By Stephanie Crawford August 21, 2022

Did you know that 2022 is the100 year anniversary of when King Tut’s tomb was discovered?

In celebration of this historic event, SoWa Power Station in Boston's South End area is hosting Beyond King Tut Immersive Experience in Boston’s South End Area.  I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy a Mommy’s Day out where my sister LaNette and I were VIPs for the day as we enjoyed learning about King Tut.

Flour Bakery and Cafe

Before we got to SoWa Power Station, where the exhibit is being held, we stopped by Flour Bakery and Cafe for a behind the scenes tour around their production kitchen.  We got to see first hand as their hard working team rolled, baked and packaged goodies like the King Tut Honey and Almond Cake!  We learned so much about what it takes to keep a bakery going, ensure the safety of the food and customers and the love and care put into all of the food at Flour.  When I asked about the inspiration behind the cake flavor, they told me that it was a play on the Honey found in King Tut’s Tomb when it was discovered.  This made me super excited to learn more about the King Tut discovery.

Beyond King Tut

When we pulled up to Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience, there was $30 parking available for all patrons, which is great to know for the South End area of Boston where parking is limited.  The line moved pretty quickly as we got our tickets and VIP badges and headed into the exhibit.  The tour started with a movie before the doorway to explore opens up.  There are many rooms, and amazing projections in each room.  You can look left, right up and down as you take in the story of the young king.  As we enjoyed the show, we were also able to scout out some great learning opportunities for our children.  If you get tired easily, there are places to sit and relax as you view.  When we got to the end we sat down to view the 360 virtual reality show that gave insight into the items in King Tut’s tomb.

All Glammed Up

Aside from the immersive rooms we really enjoyed being all glammed up by the amazing beauticians in the gift shop!  The choices felt endless as we had the option of getting our hair done, getting our nails done and getting tattoos or make up.  I chose to get two tattoos and some eye glam and LaNette got her nails done.  It was so fun we can’t wait to go back and try something new.

Overall the experience was fun and educational.  I learned so much that I did not know about King Tut and the beliefs of the people from that day.  I am excited to bring my son and watch him explore Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience in his own way!
