Our Visit to Boston Lights at the Franklin Park Zoo

Fun For All Ages

By Stephanie Crawford October 10, 2022

As a member of the Franklin Park Zoo, my son and I love visiting the Zoo to see all of the animals and hang out at the fun attractions.  We did not know how much fun it would be to hang out at the Zoo in the dark!  We recently visited the Zoo for the Boston Lights event and had so much fun with some of our extended family members of various ages.  As a mom, you never know how an experience will be for children of different ages but for our family it was a blast for everyone involved.  I wanted to give you the run down on what it was like for each of our family members at their different ages.

Let's start with the little ones because they tend to enjoy many things.  The Boston Lights Exhibit was no different!  Our 3 year old, 5 year old and 7 year old had a blast walking (and jumping) down the path to see all of the different light shows.  They loved  being able to name the animals and object that they saw like all of the planets.  The oldest of the bunch was determined to take a picture with every figure she could.  One plus was the exhibit they called "dancing squares" because every time they jumped on a square it changed colors.  It was as if they were dancing to a rainbow beat.  They got so into this, we had to remind them that there was so much more to see!

The Preteens and Teens in our family experienced this exhibit a little differently.  Of course when we got there they were already thinking about their exit plan.  Little did they know, anywhere as pretty and as "lit" as this place is going to provide a GREAT background for TikTok videos.  They were thrilled to try a new move every time the scenery changed, but they were not thrilled about me trying to get in on the fun.  I was not allowed in the video!  They also enjoyed the "dancing squares" and they were excited to find their Chinese Zodiac animal and pose with it.  I think their favorite spot was a mix between the light swings and the seesaw.  They couldn't stop talking about either of them on the ride home.  This was not one of those trips where you hear "i'm bored" 10000 times.  Does your little one love fried dough?  Make sure you bring some dough of your own because according to our crew, its good!

Last but not least, the adults were not just the supervisors for this trip.  We had fun as well as we got to be kids again.  We took pictures and got a chance to just stroll down the path as the children had fun in a safe space.  If you are looking for a place to get some of that extra evening energy out of your children, this would be a good one.  Depending on the day and the crowd, parking may take you pretty far down the road, so keep that in mind when you are planning your trip.  Tickets are discounted when you are a member so if you are, don't pay full price!  Speaking of tickets, it's best to get them online because the tickets are timed.  If you need any help, the staff was great and calling ahead was helpful for some of the questions we had.

So, how do you think your family would like Boston Lights?  I'd love to hear about it!
